Frequently Asked Questions
Comprehensive Mental Health Services
1) What ages do you serve?
We provide services for individuals ages 8 and older. That includes children, teens, adults, and older adults. If you’re unsure whether our services fit your needs or your child’s needs, contact us and we’ll guide you to the right next step.
2) How do I know if I may be depressed?
Depression can look different for different people, but common signs include:
-
feeling down, empty, or hopeless most days
-
loss of interest in activities you usually enjoy
-
changes in sleep or appetite
-
low energy, fatigue, or difficulty concentrating
-
feelings of guilt, worthlessness, or being a burden
-
thoughts of self-harm or feeling like life isn’t worth living
A helpful first step is to complete our Depression Assessment (PHQ-9). The PHQ-9 is a widely used, evidence-based screening tool that asks about symptoms over the last two weeks and helps estimate severity. It’s not a diagnosis, but it can help you understand whether professional support may be needed. Integration Academy+2NovoPsych+2

If you score in the moderate-to-severe range, or if you’re concerned about your mood, we encourage you to schedule an evaluation.
3) I believe I have anxiety. What should I do?
Feeling anxious sometimes is normal, but anxiety may be a concern when it:
-
feels hard to control
-
happens most days
-
affects sleep, focus, relationships, or work/school
-
causes physical symptoms (restlessness, muscle tension, stomach upset, racing heart)
Our GAD-7 Anxiety Assessment is a brief, clinically validated screener that measures anxiety symptoms over the last two weeks and helps identify severity. Like the PHQ-9, it’s not a diagnosis, but it’s a strong tool for understanding what you’re experiencing and whether further evaluation may help. SBIRT Oregon+2gad-7.org+2

4) Do you prescribe medication?
Yes. Our psychiatric providers can evaluate whether medication may be helpful and, if appropriate, prescribe and monitor it as part of your treatment plan. Medication decisions are always collaborative and based on your needs, preferences, and health history.
5) What is the difference between a therapist and psychiatric care?
Great question—people often mix these up.
Therapists (counselors, social workers, psychologists):
-
provide talk therapy (CBT, trauma therapy, supportive therapy, etc.)
-
help you process emotions, build coping skills, and work through patterns or experiences
-
do not prescribe medication (in most states)
Psychiatric providers (psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners):
-
focus on diagnosis and medical treatment of mental health conditions
-
can prescribe medication and manage symptoms biologically
-
also provides therapy, but can work alongside a therapist for full support
Many clients benefit from both—therapy for healing and skill-building, and psychiatric care for symptom stabilization when needed.
